Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) locked horns with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Eden Gardens on Thursday (April 6) in match no. 9 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. KKR emerged victorious in the game and defeated RCB by a massive margin of 81 runs. The Kolkata-based franchise’s owner Shah Rukh Khan was also present at the venue to support his team in the clash.

Asked to bat first, KKR failed to start well and lost three of their batters with just 47 runs on the board. However, opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz stood firm on one end and scored a brilliant half-century to help his team make a comeback in the game. Meanwhile, Rinku Singh and Shardul Thakur also played explosive knocks of 46 and 68 runs for their team, powering KKR to a mammoth total of 204/7 in their 20 overs. On the other hand, David Willey and Karn Sharma picked up two wickets each for RCB.

In reply, RCB failed terribly in the run chase and managed to score just 123 runs in 17.4 overs. Only a few batters, including Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis, Michael Bracewell and Willey, managed to get into double digits. The KKR bowlers were on fire as Varun Chakravarthy and Suyash Sharma scalped four and three wickets to dismantle the RCB line-up.

After the match, Virat was seen meeting Shah Rukh and dancing on his movie’s popular tune ‘Jhoome Jo Pathaan’. During the interaction, the former RCB skipper also had a long chat with the Bollywood superstar.

Later, Shahrukh went to acknowledge Shardul for his match-winning performance. Notably, Shardul was declared the ‘Player of the Match’ for his outstanding all-round show in the contest. Apart from quickfire 68 runs, he also picked up a wicket in his two overs.
