Umpire’s counting error in Mahedi Hasan’s over

Amidst the action-packed contest, an unusual incident caught the attention of cricket fans. It involved Mahedi Hasan, the Bangladeshi bowler, and on-field umpire Sharfuddoula. During New Zealand’s innings, Mahedi inadvertently bowled 7 legal balls in an over, as umpire Sharfuddoula experienced a momentary lapse and failed to keep track of the number of deliveries bowled.

Notably, Sharfuddoula, a former domestic cricketer in Bangladesh, has featured in 10 First-Class matches and claimed 31 wickets. In the realm of international umpiring duties, he has officiated in over 150 matches to date.

Speaking about the match, the Black Caps faced a stern test against the Bangladeshi bowlers. They struggled to maintain consistency and managed to post a total of 254 runs in their allotted 50 overs. Henry Nicholls was the notable contributor with 49 runs off 61 balls, including six boundaries.

Chasing a target of 255, Bangladesh faced the heat against a potent New Zealand bowling attack. Tamim Iqbal provided some hope with his innings of 44 runs off 58 balls, featuring seven boundaries. Mahmudullah anchored the innings, scoring 49 runs off 76 balls, including four fours and a six.

However, the Bangladeshi batters struggled to build partnerships, and New Zealand’s bowlers consistently maintained a disciplined line and length to apply pressure. Sodhi emerged as the star with the ball for New Zealand, delivering a match-winning performance by claiming six crucial wickets for just 39 runs in his 10-over spell.
