In a dazzling display of batting prowess, England amassed a colossal total of 364 runs against Bangladesh in Match 7 of the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala.

The English batters exhibited their class right from the outset, with the opening combination of Dawid Malan and Jonny Bairstow setting a strong foundation by sharing a formidable 115-run partnership for the first wicket. Although Bairstow’s impressive innings ended at 52, Malan stood out with a staggering contribution of 140 runs.

The left-handed maestro continued his dominance, crafting another substantial partnership worth 151 runs alongside Joe Root, who contributed a commendable 82 runs to England’s commanding total.

Joe Root’s noteworthy achievement

In his staggering knock of 82 in 68 balls, Root surpassed the run-tally of former cricketing legend Graham Gooch to become the all-time top scorer for England in the ODI World Cups. The right-handed batter achieved this significant milestone in his 19th World Cup match, surpassing Gooch’s previous record of 897 runs.

Root’s astounding mark came up with his second consecutive fifty in the tournament. This innings against Bangladesh also marked his eighth fifty-plus or more score in the ODI World Cups.

It’s worth mentioning that this was Root’s third appearance in the mega ODI event, and at 32 years of age, he stands as England’s second-highest run-scorer in the ODI format, with only Eoin Morgan ahead of him.
