During the West Indies versus England encounter held at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua, Sam Curran found himself in the record books for all the wrong reasons. The talented all-rounder set an unwanted record by conceding the most runs for England in an ODI match.

Sam Curran’s struggle with the ball

Facing a formidable West Indies batting lineup in the first ODI of the three-match series, Sam Curran struggled to contain the runs, ultimately ending with figures of 9.5-0-98-0. Therefore, he surpassed the previous record for the most runs conceded by an English bowler in the format, going past Steve Harmison, who gave away 97 runs in his quota of 10 overs against Sri Lanka in 2006.

Curran, known for his ability to swing the ball, had an off day with the white leather as he faced fierce resistance from the West Indies’ aggressive batters, especially Shai Hope. The Windies skipper along with all-rounder Romario Shepherd added an 89-run partnership for the sixth wicket and guided the home team to victory.
