In a startling turn of events, the Nagpur police have taken action against a former Indian cricketer for his involvement in a Cheque bouncing case. This cricketer, who once graced the field alongside legends like Sachin Tendulkar and Vinod Kambli during the 90s era, now finds himself entangled in legal woes.

From the cricket pitch to the courtroom

Prashant Vaidya, a former cricketer who represented India in the mid-1990s, was apprehended by the Nagpur police on Wednesday following the execution of a non-bailable arrest warrant. The warrant was issued against him due to his alleged involvement in a cheque bouncing incident.

The allegations unveiled

According to reports, Vaidya had purchased steel from a local trader and issued a cheque as payment. However, the cheque bounced, leading to a demand for fresh payment from the trader. Despite the demand, Vaidya purportedly refused to comply, prompting the trader to pursue legal action.

Vaidya was produced before a court where he was released on a surety bond. This development sheds light on the legal challenges faced by the former cricketer, whose current role involves heading the cricket development committee of the Vidarbha Cricket Association.

“He had allegedly purchased steel from a local businessman and issued a check which bounced, following which the businessman demanded fresh payment,” said Mr Rajput as quoted by Navbharat.

“The cricketer reportedly refused to pay so the businessman moved court. A non-bailable warrant was issued against him for not attending the court hearing,” added the Inspector.

A brief career in cricket

Vaidya’s stint in international cricket was brief, and his first-class career also ended rather quickly. He debuted in the Ranji Trophy during the 1992-93 season, but by the conclusion of the 1996-97 season, his cricketing journey had significantly slowed down.

As a medium pacer, Vaidya marked his international debut against Australia on February 22, 1995, participating in an ODI match during the New Zealand Centenary Tournament. Throughout his international career, the cricketer from Nagpur played in four ODIs, managing to secure four wickets.

Additionally, Vaidya participated in 56 first-class games and 41 List A matches, demonstrating his prowess as a right-arm bowler. In these matches, he accumulated a total of 171 wickets in first-class cricket and 46 wickets in List A format.
