The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary, Jay Shah, has delivered a significant update on Rishabh Pant’s cricketing return in the national jersey. After a life-threatening car accident in December 2022, Pant’s recovery and rehabilitation have been closely monitored by the National Cricket Academy (NCA). He underwent ligament reconstruction surgery on his injured knee and received treatment for a fractured wrist and ankle. Remarkably, his recovery has progressed well, raising expectations for his comeback.
IPL 2024 comeback
The much-anticipated return of Pant is slated for the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2024. Speculation about the extent of Pant’s involvement and his ability to keep wickets for Delhi Capitals (DC), the franchise he captains, has been a topic of discussion.

Rishabh Pant’s eligibility for T20 World Cup 2024 outlined by Jay Shah
Addressing the speculation surrounding Pant’s inclusion in the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup 2024, Shah revealed that Pant could participate in the mega event if he can resume wicketkeeping duties. The global showpiece event is scheduled to take place in the West Indies and the United States of America (USA) from June 1, immediately following the conclusion of the IPL.
“He is batting well, he is keeping well. We will declare him fit very soon. If he can play the T20 World Cup for us, that will be a big thing for us. He is a big asset for us. If he can keep, he can play the World Cup. Let’s see how he does in the IPL,” Jay Shah was quoted as saying by the PTI.
Upcoming T20 World Cup schedule
The T20 mega event will kick off with an exciting clash between the USA and Canada in Dallas. India’s journey in the tournament begins on June 5 against Ireland, with a highly anticipated encounter against Pakistan scheduled for June 9 at Eisenhower Park in New York.
