Indian batters Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan have shown major gains in the latest released ICC Men’s ODI batters Rankings following their impressive outings in the group stage of the ongoing Asia Cup 2023. Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Babar Azam continues to reign supreme at the top of the ladder.
Ishan Kishan’s rise
Ishan shined with the bat in the first game of India in Asia Cup 2023 against Pakistan, where he smashed a brilliant 82 runs after India suffered a top-order collapse. The outstanding performance catapulted him 12 places up the ICC ODI Batters Rankings to claim the 24th spot.
Shubman Gill strengthens his position
On the other hand, Shubman showed his fine touch in India’s subsequent match against Nepal, amassing 67 unbeaten. Gill’s remarkable performance has secured him a career-best 750 rating points, strengthening his position among the world’s best ODI batters.

Babar Azam’s reign continues
While the Indian duo was making waves, Pakistan’s Babar continued to assert his dominance. The Pakistan skipper began the Asia Cup 2023 with a phenomenal 151-run inning against Nepal, elevating his rating points to 882. Babar retained his numero uno position among ODI batters with ease.
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s maintain their rankings
Apart from this, India’s cricketing stalwarts, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, find themselves sitting at the 10th and 11th positions, respectively. It is worth mentioning that Rohit scored an impressive 74 not out against Nepal and even won the ‘Player of the Match; award. However, Virat faced an early dismissal in the first match against Pakistan and didn’t get a chance to bat in India’s second game of the tournament’s league stage.
Pakistan pace battery dominates bowler’s rankings
It’s not just the batters who have been making strides in the rankings; bowlers have also been making their presence felt. Pakistan’s Shaheen Afridi rose four places to claim the fifth position in the ICC ODI Bowlers Rankings, thanks to his six wickets in the Asia Cup 2023. His compatriots, Haris Rauf (29th position) and Naseem Shah (68th position), also achieved their career-best ratings, climbing 14 and 13 places, respectively.
