CPL 2020 fixtures announced; Trinbago Knight Riders to face Guyana Amazon Warriors in the tournament opener
CPL 2020 SCHEDULE

Ever since England started their Test series against West Indies, it opened the doors of resumption of cricket. After the Windies, England will play a series against Ireland, Pakistan and Australia. Not only the international arena, but even the domestic circuit is also getting ready to re-start the captivating game.

Recently, Cricket Australia (CA) have announced the schedules of their premier domestic T20 tournament, Big Bash League (BBL) for both men and women edition. Now, Cricket West Indies (CWI) have revealed the fixtures of Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2020.

The exciting Twenty20 tournament will run from August 18 to September 10. A total of 33 matches will be played in Trinidad & Tobago, as all events will take place across two stadiums in the island. The Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba will host 23 games, including the semi-finals and final. Similarly, the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain will have 10 matches.

Last year’s runners-up, Guyana Amazon Warriors, will take on Trinbago Knight Riders in the opening game of the tournament. While Barbados Tridents, who were the last year’s champion, will play the second match against St Kitts & Nevis Patriots.

Fans, however, would not be able to see the matches from stadiums, as the competition will take place behind closed doors in a bio-secure environment amid the COVID-19 outbreak.

“This year will be a different CPL, but the standard will be higher than ever. We have seen the appetite for live sport since it has returned after a prolonged absence, and the interest in CPL will be higher than ever with it being the first franchise T20 tournament to return,” said Damien O’Donohoe, the Hero CPL’s CEO as quoted by CPL’s official website.

Speaking about the announcement of the tournament fixtures, Hero CPL’s COO, Pete Russell, gave credit to the government of Trinidad and Tobago. He said: “We would like to express our gratitude to the government of Trinidad & Tobago for helping us to put on this tournament in such difficult circumstances. We are delighted that we are able to deliver a tournament that is ensuring the safety of the public and the players, and that will be of such a high standard.”
